2016 Awards

The Social Enterprise Awards are a unique opportunity to recognise and celebrate excellence in Australian social enterprise across eight categories.

Each category winner of this year’s Social Enterprise Awards will receive one ticket, plus return airfares and 3 nights accommodation, to to attend and participate as speakers at the Social Enterprise World Forum 2017 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

 

1. Social Enterprise Of The Year (Small)

Who is this Award for?

This Award is for social enterprises who have been trading for at least three years and are employing less than 20 people effective full time (EFT) that can demonstrate that they are delivering high impact in relation to their mission. 

Judging Criteria

  1.  Excellent vision and strategic direction (100 words)
  2. Strong leadership, management and governance of the organisation (200 words)
  3. A demonstrable impact that is well articulated and measured (400 words)
  4. A sustainable and proven business model (400 words)
  5. Contribution to the development of the sector beyond your own organisation (200 words)

 

2. Social Enterprise Of The Year (Large)

Who is this Award for?

This Award is for social enterprises who have been trading for at least three years and are employing 20 or more people effective full time (EFT) that can demonstrate that they are delivering high impact in relation to their mission. 

Judging Criteria

  1.  Excellent vision and strategic direction (100 words)
  2. Strong leadership, management and governance of the organisation (200 words)
  3. A demonstrable impact that is well articulated and measured (400 words)
  4. A sustainable and proven business model (400 words)
  5. Contribution to the development of the sector beyond your own organisation (200 words)

 3. One-To-Watch Award

Who is this Award for?

This Award is for social enterprises who have been trading for less than three years that can articulate their future vision and can demonstrate a clear roadmap for growth in their business model.

Judging Criteria

  1.  A clear vision for the social enterprise (100 words) 
  2. Illustrate a clear market for your product or service (200 words)
  3. Clear roadmap to a sustainable business model (400 words)
  4. Strong leadership, management and governance of the organisation (200 words)
  5. Potential for future success, in the judges view

 

4. Capital for Impact Award

Who is this Award for?

This Award is for, trusts and foundations, intermediaries, individual investors, impact investors, governments, financial institutions, social enterprises etc. and may include co-investors - who provide innovative, fit-for-purpose capital that specifically responds to the needs of a social enterprise and results in measureable sustainable impact. Capital may include any or all of: grants, crowd sourcing, equity, quasi-equity, debt or other vehicles.

Judging Criteria

  1.  Describe the process of constructing the investment/capital provision (200 words)
  2. Explain how the provision of capital has been individually structured in response to the needs of the social enterprise (400 words)
  3. Articulate the actual/forecast impact for the social enterprise’s own viability that has/will result from this capital (200 words)
  4. Articulate the actual/forecast social impact that will/has been generated as a result of this capital (200 words)

 

5. Social Enterprise Innovation Award

Who is this Award for?

This Award is for social enterprises who have been trading for one year that can demonstrate 'innovation' as a new and improved model or service, not just a novel one.

Judging Criteria

  1.  Excellent vision and strategic direction (100 words)
  2. Significant innovation in achieving your mission. This may include: product or service offering, business model or partnership creation.  (200 words)
  3. Explain how the innovation has contributed to delivering a greater social impact (400 words)
  4. Strong leadership, management and governance of the organisation (200 words)
  5. Highly successful or potential for future success, in the judges view

 

6. Buy Social Award

Who is this Award for?

This Award is for any public sector body including all forms of government, social enterprise or private sector organisation that have demonstrated procurement from social enterprises and evidence of a process, policy or intent for growing social enterprise procurement within their supply chain.

Judging Criteria

  1.  Able to demonstrate purchase or procurement from a social enterprise (400 words)
  2. Explain why are you doing this and what benefit it is delivering to your organisation (400 words)
  3. Explain what social impact the purchase or procurement is having in the broader community (200 words)
  4. Able to articulate the steps taken to improve the buying environment for social enterprises (200 words)

 

7. Social Enterprise Champion Award (Individual)

Who is this Award for?

This Award is for an individual who has made a significant and substantial contribution to the development of social enterprise in Australia.

Judging Criteria

  1.  What impact has the person made? (400 words)
  2. How has it been achieved?  (100 words)
  3. How have they been able to influence people within and outside the social enterprise sector? (200 words)

 8. Women's Impact Award

Who is this Award for?

This Award is for a social enterprise that has been trading for at least three years and has made a significant and substantial impact to addressing disadvantage amongst women. 

Judging Criteria

  1.  Excellent vision and strategic direction (100 words)
  2. Strong leadership, management and governance of the organisation (200 words)
  3. A demonstrable impact for disadvantaged women that is well articulated and measured (400 words)
  4. How has it been achieved?  (100 words)
  5. A sustainable and proven business model (400 words)
